In service, barcode scanners are used for the reading of the vehicle identification number, VIN.  One advantage of scanner use is that the service writer does not have to write down the VIN or even read it correctly.  The VIN is simply scanned as the vehicle enters the service lane.

We and our representatives sell barcode scanners manufactured by Symbol, a division of Motorola.  We sell a wired model LS 2808 and a wireless model LS 4278.  The LS 2808 sells at a much lower price, but the user does not have the freedom of being wireless.
